Printed Kalamkari sarees are made by block printing typical hand painted sketches of artisans from Srikalahasti and Masulipatnam in Andhra Pradesh on cotton or silk fabrics. Replicas of Tree of life, flowers, faces, goddesses from ancient Indian mythology, dancing damsels, dolls, peacocks etc. are popular. Wooden Blocks are first carved, then natural dyes like indigo are applied on them before pressing on pre washed sari fabric.
