Batik is a wax resist dyeing technique done on a whole saree or piece of fabric. It originated in Java, Indonesia. The resist is created by either drawing the dots and lines using a tool called canting or printing the resist with a copper stamp called cap. In India Batik printed sarees, salwar suits, kurtas, dresses and shirts are quite popular.
