The story of Shivangi Kasliwaal!
Shivangi Kasliwaal was born and brought up in Banaras, the centre of north India's weaving Industry. She grew up amidst the traditional designs and techniques, seeing the regional weavers and artisans work from close quarters. Her family’s flagship store, The Indian Textiles Co. at the Taj Mahal Hotel, Mumbai is over eighty years old.
Shivangi started her own brand in 2009 to revive the beautiful Banarasis that she loved so much. She started out by connecting with old weavers who had scattered and moved onto powerlooms and other lucrative jobs during the slump in the weaving industry.
Shivangi studied software engineering in Australia, completed her M.Sc. Finance in England, and has had over four years of corporate work experience at renowned companies like Siemens & Deutsche Bank. She now works to preserve the Banarasi textile, attempting to give this craft an identity and an attractive hold against global fashion trends.

Banarasi or Benarasi Weaving is one of the oldest and most versatile weaving clusters in the Indian Subcontinent. Zari & Brocade textiles are the specialties of Banaras. The saris of Banaras are named after the motifs – shikargarh, ada bel (foliage motifs), kalga (floral) and more.
Traditionally Banarasi saris are also woven in different materials – Pure Silk (Katan), Organza (Kora) and Fine Cotton. Contemporary Designers have innovated on the material that is used to weave Banarasi Saris. We now have Georgette Banarasis, Crepe Banarasi, Linen Banarasis & More
