Gadwal
Gadwal is a small town in Mehboobnagar district of Telengana. The weaves of Gadwal are about 300+ years old and have historically flourished under the patronage of various princely rulers of the region. The Classic Gadwal sari is a silk-cotton sari. The body of the sari is woven with fine cotton & the border & pallu are made using mulberry or tussar silk and embellished with zari.
The more contemporary Gadwals are woven fully in silk. However, whether its silk-cotton or pure silk, one distinguishing feature of the Gadwal sari is the “kuttu” (meaning joining) at the border – so whether it cotton or silk, the Gadwal always have a silk border and invariably in dramatic colours.
