Mangalgiri
Mangalgiri or Mangalagiri as it is locally known in located in the state of Andhra Pradesh. Mangalgiri saris are woven on a pit loom and the weaving industry in Mangalagiri is more than 500 years old, making it an ancient craft.
Mangalgiri is well known for its handloom fabrics that are famous for their tightly woven structure with fine stripes & checks & well-knit, dense zari / threadwork borders which give these saris a beautiful drape. Managalgiri fabrics are woven in vibrant colours and this combined with the super fine weaving gives them a crisp finish.
The other unique feature of these saris is a typical border that is known as the “Nizam Border”. This border can be found only in Managalgiri saris. Managalgiris are also now woven in Silk Cotton & Silk.
The Vibrant Colours, Stellar Fabrics & Exemplary Designs make Mangalgiri a much desired fabric amongst handloom lovers across India. The enterprising local weavers have also innovated on the fabric.
