The handwoven textiles of Odisha have a distinctive look because of their typical motifs and vibrant colours.  The handloom weaves of Odisha are a thriving industry and provide employment to thousands of skilled weavers across the state.  


The famous intricately woven Odisha Ikat saris are created by an intricate process called Bandha in which the warp & weft threads and tied & dyed to produce a pattern.  Typical Odisha Designs & motifs includes fish, tortoise, sea shells, rudhraksh beads and the kumbha


The Bomkai cotton & silk saris from Ganjam Districts have distinct Tribal Ikat patterns in the pallu & kumbha inspired borders.  The Sambalpuri Saris from Odisha are famous for their double ikat checkerboard pattern (Passapalli)
